Can't Hear My Eyes - THERE MUST BE SOME WAY TO AVOID THIS PAIN: Trim The Barber

Thanks to Tom Walters for writing about 'Always Delayed' on his punk, garage, surf-lo-fi-twinkly-pop-blog: CAN'T HEAR MY EYES. Read his post from 28th July here:

Here's what he said:

“When did The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart get so angsty?” is the first thought to run through my head when I heard London-based punk-goes-shoegazersTrim The Barber and their track Always Delayed. Dripping with lethargy and a sense of melancholy that the title itself carries with pretty much everyone, the four-piece’s Ramsay Cooper wails and croons through a wall of reverb and noise that suddenly bursts into a euphoric, dream-like masterpiece that craves to belong on pre-90′s Creation Records.

Juxtaposed between their shoegaze roots and a thirst for punk, Trim The Barber are true contenders in the U.S. alt-rock grubby-sweater-slacker revival and a record couldn’t come sooner.

Check out more from the band over on their BandCamp page.

On Amazing Radio again, this time on 'The Amazing Rock Show'

Aaron Phillips is playing 'Always Delayed' on his 'Amazing Rock Show'on AMAZING RADIO today (Saturday 30th) from 6pm, repeated on Tuesday 2nd August from 10pm. Listen on DAB radio or online.

To contact Aaron (to tell him to play more Trim the Barber) you can write on the Facebook wall.
The playlist for the show is here.

Make sure you tune in!
Big thanks to Aaron Phillips.

KILLING MOON LIMITED: [TRACK OF THE DAY: TRIM THE BARBER "ALWAYS DELAYED"]

A big thanks to KILLING MOON LIMITED for featuring 'Always Delayed' as their 'Track of the Day'. Read their post from 23rd July here:

Here's what they said:

"Carrying on with our theme of music what makes us feel like we’re 15 again (which of course we just made up right now, but nevertheless serves as a solid platform of context), we’ve recently been tippy-tipped about London foursome Trim The Barber – having just said that, and looking at the above image we have no idea why there are more than four people depicted; however if you were to scoot across to the band’s facebook profile, you will find there are a number of images suggesting this band is more than the sum of it’s conveyed line-up parts. On the oldie side of the spectrum, you have Ian Dury & The Blockheads and TV On The Radio. On the relative-newbies, you have The Joy Formidable and Charlatans (except this is far less boring than the latter aforementioned influence we’ve just named). What’s instantly noticeable and very much applaudable upon pressing play is how distinctively British the sound of this wonderfully-named act is in every possible regard – which is impressive, given that everybody, ourselves included, are banging on about 90′s US College indie revivalism. Having rocked the proverbial boat at Old Queen’s Head recently for The Road To Standon Calling, the future looks very bright indeed for these chappies. Listen below and find out why."

The Road to Standon Calling: WE'RE IN THE FINALS!

We're very happy to announce that we've been chosen to be in the final round of The Road to Standon Calling where we'll be battling it out with four other bands for the chance to play on the main stage at the 3 day STANDONCALLING festival in Hertfordshire with the likes of SPIRITUALIZED, BATTLES, WASHED OUT, JOHN COOPER CLARKE, JOHN GRANT, TEETH OF THE SEA, HOWARD MARKS, ZINC + loads more...

All we need you to do is come to the final heat at the OLD QUEENS HEAD on Essex Road in Islington on Thursday 14th July.
It's £3 entry, we're on at 8pm and are playing a 20 min set to try and WOW the judges.

Event organiser Tamsin McLarty will be interviewed about the gig by Tom Robinson on his BBC 6Music show on Wednesday 13th July.

"Standon Calling's made it's mark by keeping it's ear to the ground and spotting talent early on. From Paloma Faith to Florence & The Machine, from The Maccabees, The Mystery Jets & Everything Everything to Delphic, Mumford & Sons, The Noisettes & Friendly Fires. The Road to Standon is the next stage, giving fledgeling artists with no label and agent support a platform to showcase their material in front of a panel of music industry judges.

The Road to Standon is being judged by Jon Hillcock (New Noise podcast and Ex-NME, XFM and 6music DJ); Olly Hodgson (Coda Music Agency); Andy Malt (CMU editor) Ally Wolf (booker for The Old Queen’s Head, The Nest, The River Rat Pack Tour); Ollie Clueit (radio plugger/award-winning blogger); and Tamsin McLarty (Standon Calling/Twisted Licks/Star of Kings booker).

The four winners of the heats, plus two judge’s wild cards will compete at the festival on the opening night of the festival, Thursday 11th August. The winner of the competition goes on to play a main stage slot the following day on Friday 12th August. Competing in the final round are:

TRIM THE BARBER
....make melancholy post-punk shoegazey stuff. We just found out about em and then we just found out we like em. Would be good to hear how it layers live."

BATTERY IN YOUR LEG: Introducing Trim the Barber

A big thanks to the BATTERY IN YOUR LEG blog for featuring us in their new bands section.
Read their post from 28th June here:

Here's what they said:

"I often feel guilty about not having enough hours in the day to spend listening to new artists. It’s not even a fear that I may miss the next big thing, more that a gem like these guys might pass me by. As with all my introducing posts, I have left it to the band to give you the low down in their own words:

‘Trim the Barber are London based psychedelic-post-punk-shoegazers. A haunting combination of the melancholic style of The Cure, the spiky post-punk snarl of Wire and the considered sonic attitude of My Bloody Valentine. Lush musical euphoria with a directness of delivery.
Formed from a sense of despair at the alienation and devolution of modern life, Trim the Barber’s music features conscious lyrical themes of despondency and frustration with an existence in a decaying post-Millennial Britain.

Since the free download release of ‘All We Can Be’, the band have been recording material for a forthcoming debut EP, set to be released this autumn and will be playing pre-release gigs towards the end of summer.
Having listened to several of the band’s tracks, I kind of concur with everything they have written above. A visit to the band’s Facebook page will lead you to ‘Free Falling’, a real standout track!"

Our compadre and ex band mate Andrew Shields has just entered the blogosphere with some autobiographical words and impressive abstract montage photography featuring some familiar faces...

Get some crack tango up ya!

Our guitarist and in-house production wizard Patrick Banks has recorded another great band as part of his music production duo Sound You Can See who have previously recorded the likes of The Dissociates, Girl From The CastleAstrid Madberg and of course us!

Hermot are not your average band, you probably won't even know what the charismatic front man Sami is going on about in his native tounge, but does that even matter? No.
So go ahead and listen to some traditional folk songs with a Finnish crack tango twist. Here's the Menee EP:

MUSIC LIBERATION Review

Thanks to MUSIC LIBERATION for featuring us in the new music section of their blog.
Read their post from 22nd June introducing us and "All We Can Be" here:

Here's what they said:

"London based Trim The Barber describe themselves as 'wailing fuzztone pyschedelic post-punk shoegazers'. Fancy huh? Fortunately they do actually fit the bill.

'All We Can Be', which is available now, is a dark, swirling, gloriously understated pop song which is orchestrated by a ghostly guitar and some rather gloomy yet oddly uplifting vocals from Matt Potter.

It's a tantalising opener which bodes well for the Autumn release of their forthcoming as yet untitled debut EP. Look out for the band playing gigs in and around that time too."

The Death of Myspace = THIS New Blog.

Due to the inevitable mass migration of Myspace we've decided to start a new blog to keep you up to speed with anything that is Trim the Barber.

Everything that Myspace offers is available in a better form by someone else, and all that was left with any use to us were the event listings and the blog, so this will now be the best place to find out about gigs and news. Brace yourselves for a new stream of gubble coming your way. You can 'follow by email' from the panel on the right, you'll get an email every time we post something new.

To view the blog we've just left behind so we can pick up where we left off:
http://www.myspace.com/wetrimthebarber/blog

In the meantime check out the Audio and Video sections of this site and hold tight for gigs... Thanks.
